  • Yaeyama Islands, Japan / Looking down at a blue sea that's drinking just as deep as it can from the blue of the sky., we see the coral reefs that surround the Yaeyama islands.

  • Docking / The tugboat BUELK assists the SEDOV in docking and brings her more or less into the same position she was in this morning. The StenaLine car ferry visible on the right side of the photo, the STENA GERMANICA, commutes daily in alternation with her sister ship, the STENA SCANDINAVICA, between Kiel and Gotenburg.

  • Cadets at work / Despite their lack of experience, the cadettes still have to give it all they've got. The manoeuvres require seamless teamwork. Each of the cadets pulls on the hawser until he's reached the front, then he turns and heads to the back again, meanwhile collecting strength for the next go.

  • Bridge in Missunde / From Schleswig I make my way along the Schlei towards Arnis. On the way I pass Missunde, an important ferrying location at the narrowest point of the Schlei. A small but noteworthy single lane drawbridge spans the water here. Pedestrians, cyclists, cars and trains take turns sharing the one way bridge.

  • Cornfield / The region that the Schlei flows through between Schleswig and the town of Kappeln is beautiful. This part of eastern Schleswig-Holstein is a favourite sailing spot. The corn fields glow in the evening light, and the rich greens of the grass blend seamlessly with the blue water.

  • Fishing net flags / In the 1960s the population of Arnis dwindled and what was once a fishing and shipping town turned into a weekend and holiday destination. These flags indicate that fishing nets has been set, so as you can see the fishermen of Arnis are still here.
